Information and Parts listing for the John Deere Casting Model #520 pedal tractor made by the ERTL Company.

The Model 4430 first made in 1973. The first few shipped from the factory had metal front wheels but without slots to mount hub caps.  These had Early Dome caps on front axle and pedal crank.  

The Model 4440 first made in 1978.  Came with black plastic seat, black plastic steering wheel and the front rims were JD Yellow plastic.

The Model 4450 first made in 1982. Came with black plastic seat, black plastic steering wheel and the front rims were JD Yellow plastic.

The Model 4455 first made in 1990.  ERTL box seal showing on right side.  The model 55 has the starter on the left rather than the battery box which is on the 50.  It also has a large embossed ERTL seal on the casting.

The Model 55 Industrial first made in 1990.  If you want an original 55 Industrial pedal tractor you almost have to have the original box it came in.  Anyone can paint a Model 55 and call it an Industrial.  Original Industrials have a typical ERTL date mark like the 1/16" scale toys.

To locate the casting number, look behind the pedal crank.  You should see: Model No. 520  Ertl Co. Dyersville, Iowa  Made in USA on the 30, 40 & 50.  On the 55 and the 55 Industrial. you should see: Stock No. 520  [Ertl box seal is on the right side]

John Deere Model or Stock No. 520 is used to identify JD 30, JD 40, JD 50 and Industrial JD 50. Usually a casting number of Model 520 is a 30 or 40 Series and Stock 520 is usually the JD 50 or Industrial JD 50 Series.
